Why lockdown is a positive for me..

Posted by Desiree Carrigan on

Hi everyone,

My first blog post, I have a few saved but never posted any, so I think this is the time to start.. New challenge to myself...

So as a salon owner of Desiree's with employees and an educator and nail product distributor for Brillbird UK & Ireland.

What a crazy time we are all going through, not just us salon owners, but everybody in the world.  We just need to remind ourselves everybody is in the same situation and we are not alone.   (We are all in the unknown).

The first week of lockdown for me was like someone had kicked me to the ground and taken my business off me.... I was in my house in a daze, not knowing what to do.  Lots of thoughts going through my head, like will my business re-open, will i have any clients, will my staff be ok, will the self employed girls be ok,  what's the long term impact going to be like ?????  so many questions that no-one could answer.

I had to change my thinking ways, I joined a facebook page called "salon owner lockdown challengeSalon" with Ryan & Hollie Powers, who have helped a lot. So if you are a salon owner and not on this page please joined its so good even if you only take one thing from it, that's better than nothing but im sure you will take a lot more like i did and still am.

I also signed up to Ryan & Hollies marketing program through their other face book page "salonology" which has been amazing.  Im currently working through the program giving me a much clearer head and time to do all these amazing tasks which will improve my salon for re-opening.  There are packages from £1.

I also spoke to fellow salon owner which was nice... as they have all been feeling the same, like a lot of us have.  By the end of the first week my thinking had changed.  I was going to use this as a positive and get my business into some sort of order..

I started with all accounts up to date for this business and my salon.  Tax return to filed for next year in the next few weeks so that's a positive. I am also working through tasks from program I have signed up to this will take a good few weeks. I am getting to know my businesses properly.

I have been practising all my nails that I learned when I was in Tenerife and passed course that I have done over the years (all notes dug out).  I have never had the time to do this practise as I'm always so busy, so its great practising certain techniques,  another positive.  I signed up to other nail art courses with other amazing educators that I know... some of these were free..some had a small fee.  So there is so much out there for everyone to do..

On a personal note  I have been meditating, charging my crystals in that amazing full moon we had (i'm not crazy honestly).  I gutted my house, (well most of it, still certain cupboards to do) I hate housework! Painted the outside fence, spent amazing time with my daughter who is 15 we have done make up together, chatted, ate dinner together, and made TIKTOK (if you haven't joined this social media platform you really should) and on another positive note I have not been chasing my tail doing all this. I also got to spend a full week with my husband which was great but too many days drinking, he is now back to work for 3 weeks, so my liver can rest.. until he returns..

So on a whole for me this lockdown has given me a new lease of life, new goals business and personal, as I really don't want to go back to chasing my tail on a daily bases, trying to fit everything in there is no need, this has proven to me what is most important in life and how to prioritise tasks that need done.

If anyone is feeling lost and has no-one to speak to.  Please feel free to message me, I am happy to help if I can. I hope this has helped someone. My Email: brillbirdglasgow@gmail.com

Stay strong, safe & positive.

Love Desiree xoxo
